Has anyone tried Vengeur and Vengeur Platiunum? I ordered the Plat. version, it is a bit on the mild side for me, is the regular version noticably stronger? Thanks. Michael

I like the Venguer Platinum but it is a tad too strong for my tastes; mixed with three Sails it is excellent. Keeping this one moist does help.

I really like this Vengeur tobacco from D&R. After smoking it for a while, I spent a couple days smoking some different tobacco just to use it up. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the other tobacco, it's actually pretty decent stuff, but tonight I opened a new bag of the Vengeur and see why I like it so much. It' just so smooth and pleasant to smoke. Now I jut need to order some Vengeur Platinum, Two Timer gold, Ramback Gold and Windsail Platinum.

I'll agree with the previous posters... just got a cup of this today, and I can see this being the regular "go to", unless I force myself away from it.

Smooth, light, no quirks, twists or other weird taste-points that you have to overcome in order to get used to it. It's a light and very easy to like tobacco. As close to a Marlboro as you're going to get in the MYO industry, in my opinion.

However, it's so light and easy in its presentation and taste that I can see that it'll be really easy to start chaining these things, much like I used to do with the Marlboro Lights that I just kicked to the curb.

But there's the rub...

Besides the money saving, part of the reason I got into MYO is to cut down on my daily quantity of smokage. The PS Turkish Export that I've used for the last month accomplished both goals... less money spent, and fewer cigs smoked because of the kick they deliver.

Props to D&R, though, it is a great blend... With a little bit of shrewd marketing, I think they would have a tiger by the tail with this stuff. If they'd treat this as a loss-leader for a period of time, and sell it for cheap in order to get people on the MYO bandwagon, their stacks of cash would soon be higher than their stacks of tobacco.

Maybe change the name from Vengeur to "Barlmoro", and take it from there...   LOL

My initial opinion is that Vengeur saves the money, but I won't be cutting down on cigs-per-day with this stuff... it's just too easy to smoke.

This is one of my staple tobaccos. A blend of burly (earthy and nutty), Virgnia (sweet and floral) and oriental (spice) tobaccos. Very close to a typical American cigarette but without the bitter after taste on the palette (as advertsed). As with all D&R blends that I've tried, this one stuffs easy. Moisture level is just the right consistancy for stuffing out of a freshly opened pouch. Highly recommended, especially to those new to 'stuff your owns'.

I use the regular Premier tubes and a Top-o-matic machine. A perfect match with this blend.

Just to correct: Very close in taste to a PREMIUM American cigarette.

An excellent blend. Try it.

Vengeur Platinum

Just tried it and found it to be an excellent "american" tasting blend. Nothing fake or obtrusive about its aroma and flavor (unlike, say, Zig Zag or Rowland), and the strength is just right, neither as strong as Rowland nor as mild as Windsail. It stuffed beautifully (as all D&R blends I tried so far). If my memory is any good, this blend reminded me of Winston I occasionally smoked in early 1970s - smooth and flavorful, but not chocolaty like Marlboro. I'll try to blend it with Ramback Gold to see if it yields a "Camel-of-old" flavor, as suggested by RYO Magazine.

V.B.
You are right on in your description of Vengeur Platinum. I was a Vengeur regular smoker for a while. It was my everyday smoke. My last D&R order I decided to give it a try. I try different tobaccos regularly while ordering my Vengeur. The platinum is now my new everyday smoke.

Your right on the mark. Have smoked Winston's for years and this IS a 70's/80's Winston almost to a tee.

This is a smooth yet flavorful smoke. Apparently even more selection techniques goes into this one. It has no additives which I prefer. I would rather have an extremely carefully made and selected blend than a tobacco laiden with casings and flavorings. It just seems to be easier on the lungs.

I've been rolling my own cigarettes for several years and have settled on a mix of D&Rs Windsail and Vengeur. The Windsail is a little too light and the Vengeur is a little too strong for my personal taste. I combine both to get a taste somewhere between Marlboro regular and Marlboro light.

I ordered the menthol starter kit from D&R. I like a combination of Rowland and Wingate, but found the Vengeur too harsh. I've also found a big difference in the tubes, and prefer either the Premier Menthol, Mentho Tip by Gizeh or Mascotte menthol.

There are so many raves on Bali Shag, I found a pouch locally, and look forward to trying it.

Vengeur Light

Just ordered two tubs of Vengeur from D&R after previously trying Windsail Light, S.J. Rimboche and Ryback. I have to say Vengeur most closely resembles a Marlboro Red compared to the other brands. Since i just bought a pack of reds after running out of RYO last week, i can make an accurate comparision.

After buying a few more tubs i thought the Vengeur got a little strong after awhile and doesnt have the enduring qualities of a St. James or Green River Perique, which i currently smoke. So i'll edit my original description. taste like a Marlboro but every cigarette isnt quite as refined as a Marlboro. Quality tobacco nontheless, and if i had some Venguer now i'd light one up.

I was having trouble with the Vengeur being harsh also. i raise the moisture content a little more and it smoothed out.

Yep, I thought this was going to work, but no dice. Changed my mind, it's too harsh... or rather, it seems like the harshness builds the more of it I smoke.

That said, here's my thoughts after my first sample pack of D&R tobacco:

Vengeur: See above.

Windsail: OK, but nothing that stands out and makes me want to order more.

Rowland: Fugeddaboutit! The chocolate is too heavy, and the tobacco's harshness made me bark up a lung.

Ramback: Good stuff! I like it a lot, especially for blending. I could order more, but the smoke shop down the street has PS Turkish in stock, so there's the convenience factor (and lack of shipping costs) that I'll need to balance out.

Periques: Both the GR and SJ are EXCELLENT stuff! GR by itself is too much for me, but it adds a killer touch when blended in to just about anything else. The SJ is great by itself, and also plays really well with other tobacco. I will be ordering more of each of these.

Like Scott said, raising the moisture level helps with the harshness. Being an ex-red smoker, I agree with Larry that 50/50 Windsail and Vangeur is probably the closest. Comparing myo to pre-made is tuff, because the results may vary depending on the tobacco, moisture level, how tight you pack them and the tubes you use. Lately I have moved to Windsail / Vangeur light or Penhooker light. Just a little easier on the lungs.
