Recently bought Export 'A' when I saw it for sale at the local smoke shop.

Unlike most people around here, it seems, I prefer medium to strong tobaccos normally.

About the only tube I use are Zig-Zag Lights (tried others, but never really liked them compared to the Zig-Zags), and I couldn't even taste the SOBs in them. Then I rolled one up in paper unfiltered and it was delicious.

WOW- WHAT A TREAT-I've been waiting for a sub $15.00 tub (7.05 OZ. or 200 G) of this golden tobacco to show up on one of the better priced online tobacco stores with NO LUCK so I paid $14.99 for a can hoping for the best which in my opinion was enclosed in the well packed reusable plastic 'can'. Stuffed into escort & El Rey light tubes this is one of the best Virginia-Canadian style tobaccos I have ever tasted, smooth,flavor-full with out a hint of any harshness or burley bite whatsoever. I thought it tasted VERY SIMILAR to Peter Stokkebye's Danish Export so off to my tobacco locker I went & stuffed some of each tobacco & comparing them for about a week now I can not tell much difference between the two with Export 'A' costing as much as it does I will be happy with Danish Export unless some online store is able to offer it at a much lower price; If it cost the same as Danish export I would have to think (and smoke!) on it for a while. If you like Danish Export you will also like Export 'A' but not at such a high price.

We must be living in different universes. The only similarity between Export A and Danish Export is mildness. Export A has a cut much shorter and coarse, is much lighter in color, and smells completely different than Danish Export. As for labels and styles (which I find rather elastic in definition), Export A is "Canadian-style" and Danish Export is "European-style".

That being said, Export A is a good quality smoke, one of the most mild available in MYO. The extremely short cut makes for quite a mess for us hand-rollers, however. Shag cuts are easier to hand-roll.

The following is Doug's review of Danish export from the 1st issue of ryo magazine found the back issue section
http://www.ryomagazine.com/index.htm
"A lot of great tobacco comes from this part of the world. Beautifully blended fine long cut shags with mild yet exotic flavors. Danish Export # 91 is one of my all time favorites. A superior blend of top quality Virginias from around the world, this Scandinavian is a light yet robust fine long cut shag, reminiscent of Canada's Players and Export A cigarettes. It is milder and less earthy than most of the tobaccos from this region, with nearly all of the spice of the more robust Scans' reviewed below. Consequently, it readily adapts to the taste of both the roll your own enthusiast or thePeter Stokkebye No. 91 Danish Export manufactured cigarette smoker looking to make a change and could easily become one's everyday smoke. A much smoother smoke when compared to the pre-manufactured "Brand" name cigarettes while being far more satisfying, you will likely find yourself requiring fewer daily doses. The long fine shag cut is especially easy to roll using traditional rolling methods and is ideally suited to rolling using a tube injection machine. While it is a bit pricey (only when compared to other fine cigarette tobaccos - certainly not pre-manufactured cigarettes) at between $18 to as much as $25 street price (obviously, depending on where you shop) - for a 10.5 ounce round tobacco tin (actually cardboard with metal tops and bottom - like Bugler 0r Top), it is well worth the smoker's investment. It is surprisingly long-lasting due to the fine shag cut. In other words, you actually get more cigarettes per ounce out of this mixture than heavier shag and bulk cuts (like Bugler and Top). This style cut also helps to maintain the integrity of the tobacco in the cigarette tube, that is, much less tobacco will fall out as the finished cigarettes are handled and transported in a cigarette case for instance. In every can we've tried, the moisture content is perfect with no special treatment or maintenance required. We rate this tobacco very high and if you are going to smoke, you ought to give this a try."

This is a mystery. The Export A I get is purchased in Canada by a friend who visits there every few months. While writing this I'm looking at it and the Danish Export, and what I wrote previously is accurate. Maybe there is a different version of "A" for the U.S. market. Unfortunately, I can't check the cellophane label because I removed it completely from the polyethylene can.

Eureka! I think I solved it. I was just surfing around the web looking at the various "A" offerings and I noticed every one I found was for "Export A Select". Then I vaguely remembered that the labels on the cans my friend brings back from Canada read "Export A Light". I'm almost certain of this. We're probably commenting on two different products, so dissimilar although they share the same basic branding. I'll ask my friend to bring back both versions on the next Canada trip, and I'll report back here on what I find out.

Oh my; how I wish I had a friend who went to Canada & was able to bring back cans of this yummy tobacco!!!
The export 'A' I received from
www.ryocigarette.com/
reads "Premium all imported tobacco Export 'A' SELECT" in a blue high quality plastic tub; Also on label is printed "NOT FOR SALE VENTE INTERDITE IN AU/CANADA" there also is a "We welcome your comments 1-877-899 9283" that I called & the woman told me that was not a comment line!!!. Its very good tobacco -tasty & MILD. JTI-MACDONALD must have real tight pricing on this gold mine as the usual outlets I buy from are no less than $14.00 per 200G (7 OZ) can. If anyone finds a cheaper source PLEASE let us know.

Update: Export A Select vs. Light

It's true my friend was bringing the "Light" version back from Canada. More recently, I asked for the "Select" version. Instead, my friend brought back the "Full-Flavor" version. I can report that the Light and Full-Flavor versions are nearly the same, and to my taste are the same. Same color, same cut, same flavor. Doesn't make sense. Anyway, maybe on the next trip the Select version will materialize.

I don't know that I would put it that strongly. I don't know what else I would compare Export 'A' to. Would the somewhat plainer tasting and coarser cut American Spirit be better? Are any of the 'Canadian' tobaccos better comparisons?

Export 'A' is a slightly coarser/shorter, more manageable cut than Danish Export. Export 'A' has a spicy quality where Danish Export has a sweet one. The Export 'A' may have a slightly 'grassier' smell, pretty darn close though.
