A very strong and dark 'smoking tobacco' that's been around for 40 years.

when you get a dry pouch just put an orange peeling in the pouch for a day or so .

My newly bought pouch was at the perfect moisture for tubing! This is indeed a strange phenomenon for me! Over the years I have bought Five Brothers Smoking Tobacco off and on for a mixer or treat , and it has always been dry as it could be. The last few pouches have been fresh! Nice, now I won't have to rehydrate it anymore. Captn Mike

What a great tobacco. Nice strong tobacco taste. This has become my everyday smoke.

I keep buying this now and then and each time it is a very satisfying smoke. I've tried it in Zen, McClintock, Ramback, and Three Castles tubes in full flavor and light varieties. Not matter whether stuffed or rolled, I keep going back to this as one of my favorites. And at less than $2/pouch, It's an inexpensive treat. I wish they sold this in 6 or 10 ounce cans though.

Dang! I wish they sold this stuff in 6oz cans. The pouches tend to be a touch dry, but still stuffable and smokable if I'm careful. I looked thru several pouches at the local store today before finding a pouch that the seal hadn't broken on.

Again, I wish it was available in cans! They did offer me case boxes of 12 pouches for slight discount over the single pouch price. guess i could carefully rehydrate it then open all the pouches and dump it into my larger storage container.

noticed that after smoking some regular strength stuff for the past 2 weeks that this stuff is strong and nicotine rich!

Yes, I know! I started smoking Five Brothers way back when you could buy a pouch for $0.65. Every single pouch I've bought for several years back has been dry, and in need of hydration. But, after you fix it up--you got a hell of a good smoke IMHO. Mike

Wow! Finally got a pouch that was moist. Perfect RH for stuffing right out of the bag.

Scott, you have done that which I have been unable to so far! I was beginning to think it was designed to be dry! Well, what do you think of it? Mike (Captn)

It was just great. Tasted a little better than the dry pouches I usually have to rehydrate. A little smoother also. I hope they put this stuff in cans someday.

This stuff is pretty nicotine rich. Not sweet like a virginia and it doesn't have any added flavoring. Just a plain old tobacco taste and a big Nico wallop. I only roll with a handroller and sometimes the bird's eye will plug up the roller so I pick the big ones out first. It has some big stem pieces too and a lot of shake(powder). I get about 25 RYO cigs to a pouch. I use it mostly as a blending tobacco. It is worth trying.

I haven't been figure out yet just which tobacco they used;(Virginia, Burley etc.)? It is quite a versatile blend; never the less.

According to the pipe smokers reviews at
[link]
Five Brothers is straight air-cured Burley, "largely from bottom leaves"; "not for the frail or the weak- intentioned".

Hey! just picked up a pouch of this at the local tobacco store. hand-rolled it and enjoyed a very nice smoke. have also tried it 50/50 with C*ckstrong and Windsail Platinum. Delicious! both blends I will make again. only $1.79 for a pouch. More than worth it considering some of the stuff i've paid over $3 to try and not like.

At the grocery store I noticed a brand I hadn't seen for a long time, Five Brothers! I bought it with the intent of blending, not to smoke straight. I first had to re-hydrate this tobacco, as it was way too dry to do anything with! This blend is different to say the least. It looks like a blend of dark tobaccos ranging from black to dark brown, with lots of birds eye; some of which are black too. The cut runs from fine like Bali Shag Red to thick cut. I would say there is at least three different cuts. It smokes smooth, but will impart a buzz. I haven't smelled anything quite like it, so I'd definitely like to see some feedback on this tobacco. This blend is made by the Pinkerton Tobacco Co. of Owensboro, Ky., and I remember it as being one of the drug store--supermarket brands along with Bull Durham. It costs $2.69 for a 1-1/4 Oz. pouch.

This appears to be a pipe tobacco, its not on any MSA lists and that's the category Tobacco Supermarket has it in. Originally? (40 years ago?) manufactured by John Finzer & Bros.

...decided to start a new topic for this and other brands I've been trying to figure out what to do with.

I was a 16 year old back 40 years ago, and Five Brothers was one of the tobaccos we smoked back then either rolled up, or reluctantly in a pipe! If smoked in a pipe, Five brothers is indeed testing fate; as I still remember how sick I got one day smoking it in a corn cob pipe. Rolled up at least you have a chance. Since it is labeled as Smoking Tobacco by the manufacturer, and is clearly able to be rolled and injected; it seems to be a "Utility Tobacco". And, it blends well too. At least it's nice having my beliefs about this tobacco's strength confirmed by another source! Thanks for the good work Dave!

What the heck. If you've rolled or stuffed it. I'll post it under Brands.
