I ordered a can of AB along with a can of PS Amsterdeam shag from Lil Brown. The Bison smelled like canned green beans or spinach, so I put it in a ziplock bag for a few days to get the can smell(?) out a little.
I like the Bison--it's smoother than AS and it stuffs well.I love the Amesterdam shag, no doubt about it. It smells good and it tastes good.

OOPS, that's AMSTERDAM.
It's Friday and I'm tired.
Sorry for the spelling error.

American Bison: Smooth, Medium Strength
Posted by Warren on Friday, 12-Jan-2007

My can of American Bison (150g) from LBSS arrived today. It is quite similar to Natural American Spirit, except cut a bit finer than NAS. The cut and the moisture were ideal for stuffing. I noticed few more stems than NAS, nothing excessive, though.

I smoked several AB non-filtered (Excel) sticks, alternating with NAS. Both have clean, simple and pure tobacco leaf flavor with no extraneous non-tobacco aftertastes. AB is smoother smoke, perhaps with less Burley than NAS but with some extra Turkish or Balkan component instead. I get from the can and the smoke a subtle whiff of some Balkan tobacco (a la Sobranie) reminding me of stuff my grandfather grew in Montenegro and which I experimented with, handrolled and half-secretly, as a teen. It's a nice, quite enojoyable pure leaf combo with an exotic touch, although due to its somewhat milder nicotine kick it won't replace American Spirit as my daily work-horse smoke.

Someone looking for additive free pure tobacco and who finds NAS too strong (as my friends often complain when I give them to try), would enjoy this one. It will certainly be on my regular shopping list from LBSS, to sprinkle few a day for little moments of peace and quiet.

I should note for those not familiar with Turkish style tobacco (which is part of the AB blend) that after you smoke few cigarettes, your room smells, to put it diplomatically, "differently".

Thanks for the informative and entertaining site.

Check out the Bison tobacco at ABS tobacco shop. Strong but smooth smoke with a perfect moisture content for stuffing or rolling.

I like it better than US Spirit. Seems as the burley is more subdued but still present.

ABS Tobacco Shop is no longer in business and I'm not aware of any other online retailer carrying Wind River Tobacco Company products.

How strong is American Bison e.g. compared to American Spirit? I am about to order from Lil' Brown and consider adding a can to the order.

Being fairly new to RYO, American Bison has become my personal favorite for a light, smooth and flavorful smoke.
I see Lil Brown is out of stock of the tins so now I'm jonesing about my preferred smoke's availability.
Is this a common, temporary thing & no cause for alarm?
Is there any other way to acquire American Bison?

Thanks Joe.
I have submitted the "notify me" there on Am. Bison as well as the Zen light 100 tubes but haven't heard anything back from the site yet.
I have an order due in the next few days so it'll be awhile before I'm ready to order again.
