SWEEEET! Picked her up this afternoon. I can't believe I was patient enough to actually use a hand held now that I got this beautiful piece of machinery!

Congrats! I love my Top-O-Matic and would never go back to a handheld, even though I know many do swear by the handhelds. I am so impressed I want to buy another for backup purposes.

Glad to hear you are happy with it! Just remember to read the directions, and not to force anything! If you do happen to load too much tobacco; just back off and use a Popsicle stick or like non metallic implement to dig out the compressed tobacco and start over. Treat her right and she will reward you with fine sticks for many years. Capt Mike

I'd go one further than (cap) mike.....READ EVERYTHING ON THIS FORUM
but he did give you the golden rule: DON'T FORCE THE MACHINE
you got an awesome price BTW, use the savings to (here we go for the millionth time) get a plastic cutter.......but that'll just be an extra treat for after you graduate from the dread "newbie learning curve" (forgive me)
cheers

I love my TOM...my neighbor got the Premier Supermatic, so I've tried both, but I love my Top with the handle, and, from one newbie to another, listen to these guys and don't OVERSTUFF! For me, if it gets jammed with tobacco, I use a plastic coated chopstick to loosen it all up; works well without scratching/damaging spoon or other parts. Then I let it "rest" and dry out, or give it a quick swipe with alcohol swab, and let the tobacco dry out a bit, if dampness is the prob. The loading technique that works best for me is to fill corners first, as directed on machine, LIGHTLY pressing it down, not PACKING it in, and then LIGHTLY pressing tobacco into the center of the chamber. I let the compressor/cutter do the work...I usually load my smaller pieces in the center, using the longer strands of tobacco in the ends. I get a nicely packed smoke this way that burns very well. :-) Hope this was helpful, ENJOY your new TOM!

Thanks! Yes, I've figured out that dampness has derived me of my desired amount of smoke constituents. I discovered this on accident because I left some tobacco opened on the counter for a few hours having meant to seal it and put it away.

Overstuffing is not a problem anymore but for a friend of mine, he does it on purpose! I told him he shouldn't but didn't know why. Well, we were having a MYO get together and sure enough, the nozzle on his Super II came off into one of his cigarettes. It has a small chip where it meets the machine so maybe he'll listen. :)
