'Cuz daily morphine is safer than smoking

Posted by Hua Kul on Friday, 14-Sep-2007
.
A man with a broken ankle is facing a lifetime of pain because a Health Service hospital has refused to treat him unless he gives up smoking...He is in constant pain from the grating of the broken bones against each other and has been prescribed daily doses of morphine...Mr Nuttall said: '"I am in agony. I have begged them to operate but they won't. I have tried my hardest to give up smoking but I can't. I got down to ten a week at one point but they said that was not good enough.

I find this to be quite sick. Are these the tactics of the new Inquisition? Isn't refusing treatment and thereby leaving a patient in agony considered cruel and unusual punishment for the 'crime' of smoking?

Here's my take on this;

1. Perfect example of socialized medicine.
2. Hmmm, taxpayer pays into socialized health care system for years, then the system turns around and refuses to provide treatment for which the injured taxpayer has already paid. Nice!
3. Injured taxpayer should now file for disability, never work again and allow the society to pay his bills for the rest of his natural life. After all, I am sure it will be so much cheaper for the government (ie taxpayers) to pay disability for the rest of this man's life, rather than provide the treatment for which he has already paid.

I hope this guy finds a good lawyer.

To be expected when power freaks and Nannies gain control. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't start testing your blood at the entranceways to supermarkets. "I say, old chap, but we've detected the presence of nicotine in your system, you filthy smoker. No food for you until you quit!"

hey "friends", this is in the chat section init?
I just KILLED my ankle a couple weeks ago running to catch a bus, I was totally unable to walk for a while, and I am glad I did not read this a couple days ago....I was thinking I might have broke it (toes went black and blue)
an example of the way I live: went in a covenience store yesterday to get a drink.....the fairly large man at the counter looked at me slyly and announced he'd have to check the small bag I was carrying.....I wasn't asked to check it on entry (meaning leave it), which is the ever offensive custom at some places now, I remember it was the norm in California in 89....but it's newer here....anyway I said "I'll knock your ass out"......he didn't look but kept saying he was going to and I kept saying "I'll knock your ass out"
and he kept not checking it, until I finally gave and laughed and announced my humor, and that I wouldn't want to receive what he could deliver....
he was way bigger than me.....I'm rebelling this stupid world the best I can
so many things I do without, out of principle......no prob with a nice huge chop of a snip into deletion, Dave
