Silver Tip
Posted on Thursday, 03-Jan-2008
First it was the Rizla Cigarette Size tube with its 22mm filter and then St Vincent with their 20mm offerings (more recently 22mm). Not to be left behind, Gizeh of North America now offers the Silver Tip Extra which has a 25mm filter (the rest of their tubes have 15mm filters).
Feb 05 '08: I'm getting mixed reports on the availability of the Silver Tip Extras. Mark (D&R) says that the Silver Tip Extras won't be formally available from D&R until the end of April. Rudiger (Gizeh America) says "The Silver Tip Extra products are already available. Retailers need only call us or D & R and we'll get product out to them immediately."
Reviews: Silver Tip Extra handheld and tubes
Correction: The original (FF - not the Extra, Airstream, etc.) Silver Tip tubes have been available in 250 count boxes since 1999, i.e. they are not a new product as earlier reported.

we have ordered the new silvertip extra tubes and machines from germany and the container is scheduled to arrive by early march. we have not yet received the promotional flyers nor developed msrp pricing for these products, but have received a small number of extra tubes and machines to evaluate. the new tubes and machines will be available when the shipment arrives and we are currently evaluating the extra tubes to determine if the extra machine is required for the best fill. we plan to make them available for evaluation by commercial accounts (and perhaps some of our store customers on request) by the end of the month. they will be formally rolled out and promoted for the commercial market at the upcoming tobacco-plus tradeshow, april 24-25.

I love Gizeh/Mascotte products, they make my all time fav handheld injectors and tubes. I wonder what the "extra" means?

Silver Tip, El Rey, Escort, Premier, Rayo, Rizla, TOP, Zig-Zag, Gambler, Twister, Mascotte, Rave, Smokers Gold, Fresh Choice, Zen, etc. all have filters that are 15-17mm long.

Longer filters are still relatively new. There's maybe a handful of tubes with 20mm filters, [three] with 22mm filters and now the Silver Tip Extras with 25mm filters.

With all machines you'll get the best results when you feed the tube a tobacco plug that is close to the same length as the inside length of the tube. Handheld machines are designed with tobacco chambers sized to match the tubes they are to be used with. The Supermatic handheld has a 69mm long chamber to match the 69mm inside length of the Premier tubes, 17mm filtered tubes (67mm) will be fine, 20/64mm is pushing it. The Silver Tip Extra handheld has a 62mm chamber which is 2mm longer than the 60mm inside length of the Silver Tip Extra tubes. While you can use tubes with shorter inside lengths than the machine is designed for, you will have to trim off excess tobacco and may get torn tubes. So yes, the Extra machine, or a reduced chamber opening on the 'matics (the TOM w/ bracket is doable), is required for the best fill.
