Silver Tip Charbon

Gizeh_Charbon.jpgThe Charbon's are unique in that they have a slice of activated charcoal beads in the filter. The charcoal makes the smoke a bit smoother/milder and the price of the tubes noticeably higher. Cork color tip, classy logo, and offset seams. Made in France. ~$1.80 per 100.

May '05: The box I just received has single seam construction and charcoal granules occasionally make their way into my mouth.
Jan '08: While not a problem for some folks, I still get get charcoal granules in my mouth. The logo on all Gizeh tubes appears to have changed/standardized.

wet-lipped, heavy-hitters need not apply!

If you smoke your cigarettes aggressively-wet, hard and fast, haha-don't use these. Those carbon flakes come through very easily. I am not bashing these. I think they take the bite out of certain "spicy" blends(canadian, halfzies, menthol) like no other tube, but i only use these when im relaxed and can monitor the filter. My girlfriend, who still buys those marlboro lights, likes them, but she takes light puffs. There is no taste to the flakes, but licking a napkin in disgust and seeing black crumbs...

Gizeh Charbon - Is It Just Me?
Posted by Alist on Friday, 14-Sep-2007

Let me begin by saying I really do like these tubes. I am an ultralight smoker who has been SYO for only two weeks. So far, I have only tried the Zen Light, Gizeh Charbon and Zig-Zag light tubes. To me, it seems the Zig-Zag light tubes provide a lighter smoke than the Gizeh Charbon. I am assuming this would be true of any light tube that had air perforations in the filter. Having cut one of the Gizeh Charbon tubes open, I was shocked to see how short the filter was. I assume a longer filter wasn't necessary given the charcoal beads contained within it.

In spite of the above, I do like these filters and find the price to be well justified. Since I smoke ultralight, I conserve the Gizeh Charbons for light tobaccos only, while stuffing my ultralight tobaccos into light tubes.

Being relatively new you probably aren't aware of it but you can buy just the Gizeh charcoal filters by themselves. I think I got them at either custom blends or ryo cigarettes. Pick yourself up an inexpensive hand roller, I've seen them online for as little as $1.50; some papers and you can do some real interesting things. I have a 120mm hand roller and I've put two filters back to back. Got the idea from the Rizla double filter tubes. I've also used one or two menthol filters with non menthol tobacco. Gives you just a hint of menthol, or if you use menthol tobacco it gives you a serious hit of menthol.

I never considered the Charbon a light tube, just one that can take the bite out of a strong tobacco. Charbons are my daily tube. The spouse likes a light so I stuff ZZ light tubes with D&R's Penhooker light.

Geez, it's been several months since I've been on the forum. Nice changes.

beads!

How often do you get beads in your mouth? When I smoked manufactured cigarettes (and even while I was rolling) I'd buy a pack of mild sevens whenever I came across them but I don't recall ever getting anything in my mouth.

I've been using CHARBONs for about 3 months and have never gotten any beads in my mouth.

I will now find some wood to knock on.

How often you get beads in your mouth is all by chance. A year or two ago this was never an issue with charbons, at least not when I used them. However now, some of my boxes and actually for about the past six months this has been a problem. I buy large cases of Charbons, a 100 boxes at a time and the last case I bought, this problem has been reoccurring and troubling. At least in my case, the boxes of bad tubes seem to be random in the case that I am smoking now, sometimes no beads and at other times you can see that the QC of the tubes is poor. I my opinion the Charbon is an excellent tube but the carbon/beads in the mouth is in fact a concern and to me is troubling. Since it is a random occurrence with the case I have now (not all boxes have carbon/bead leakage) I'm hoping that the problem is nothing more than a slip-up in QC with the case or lot that I am smoking now and that next time this will not be a problem. Keep us posted on any new news or experiences with Charbons.

These are the only gizeh brand tubes I have tried. The filter tends to come apart from the paper and they impart a taste on the tobacco. They are very mellow, though. A nice alternative to standard Light tubes.

I've been smoking Gizeh Silver Tip Charbon tubes for about 3 years now. I've tried all of the light and ultra light tubes out there and these are the best. They noticeably filter out more tars, nicotine and gases and still deliver an excellent smoke. In combination with a light or ultra light tobacco they are an excellent choice for those who are used to ultra light manufactured cigarettes. Luckily I can buy them at a local tobacco shop so I don't have to pay s/h on the internet!

Best by far

If you want to really taste how good a custom cigarette can be, try these. The lights are so smooth and impart no flavor to your tobacco. If they came in 100's, I would smoke nothing else.

I agree with you 100%. And because they do not use the perforated holes that most light filter tubes have the smoke is also a lot cooler.
