American Thrust Tobacco

Some promising features. I like the $1 1oz samples. I like that with a $90 purchase shipping is free and if you need it they will replace your broken Supermatic or Excel cigarette machine machine with a fully refurbished one for free. They have both an online store and a "Online Brochure" order by 800#. Though they have a pretty good range of products, their prices are just too high for me.

I just got my first order from AT. I received my package in 2 business days, everythings there, nothing damaged. I ordered it over the net, so I didn't talk to anyone, but my order was confirmed promptly and I received a UPS tracking #. I was very impressed and now have about 20 samples to try as well. I ll probably be ordering from them again. Dan B may be right about price hikes, as the Supermatic has gone up from $40.85 to $45.00 in less than a week. And I was about to order a TOP too. Sub 10 minutes w/out really trying on the SP.

The only good thing that I can say about ATT is that their sample program is a great way to start and find out what you might like without buying bags of stuff. Otherwise, stay away from these guys. Two orders in a row messed up. Customer service that could only come from "New York City"(even if they are upstate). Very cold and rude. Don't ask questions-they aren't interested in answering. Package tracking-manual, maybe. You will have to call UPS yourself. Prices-way too high. Selection is great. Only use if you have to.

I have been ordering with this company since day one and yes I have had an order or maybe 2 not completely right, however with just a quick telephone call it was fixed. Their customer service people are great. I think it is safe to say that yes sometimes people make mistakes and sometimes they may have a bad day. Give them another shot.

American Thrust Samples

Does anyone else think they might get them screwed up and in the wrong package once in a while? The first time I ordered from them I ordered one of each. 60 some 1oz packages. I was dissapointed in the Wingate and Wingate light. They tasted like they forgot to top them with menthol. I liked them anyway but wasn't impressed enough to order 3.5 oz or more so the second time I ordered from them I ordered some more samples of them. The second time around the sample of Wingate was almost like Iceburg, the menthol almost knocked me out it was so strong. The Ramback I got the first time I ordered definately wasn't Ramback and the same with single stick menthol, it had to have been something else. Anyone else experienced this?

I'm a new kid on the SYO block, so take what I have to say accordingly. :-}

My batch of samples arrived yesterday, including a Wingate sample. Because the glorious Gloria at D&R also threw a sample of Wingate into my order that arrived the day before, I could compare the two.

All you need to do with the dull Wingate is humidify it, and it will knock your nasals out just like the fresher batch. The two are identical to start with -- they're both from D&R. The only difference is that AmThrust seem not to keep their stock (perhaps particularly the 'samples' stock) in absolutely top condition.

On the bright side, though, they had the very best prices for Premiere Supermatics and Top-O-Matics... which don't go stale. :-)

I have had all of the samples with American Thrust. Your right some of their samples are not in top condition but what do you expect for a buck, they are probably losing money to provide us this service. I really enjoy this company and the customer service is out of this world.

I don't think they get them messed up at all. I think that some of the samples move faster then others. Therefore some are more fresh. This company has my business.

My first on-line order was with them, received the package today in good condition. Felt like Christmas seeing all of the samples I ordered, which is great inexpensive way to find the brand that suits you best.

Their on-line site is easy to navigate.

I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to try samples out.

I recently converted to MYO from premades with exorbitant retail prices after reading the posts here. I submitted my first order with this company and am very pleased with their service. The packing was excellent (heavy duty double-walled box), fast shipping (with the retailer and I on the same coast), generous samples (who else offers $1 samples?), competitively-priced tubes, and free shipping as my order exceeded $90 with the inclusion of a Premier Supermatic and Excel. For a first time purchaser of MYO products, I received an excellent sample selection, a couple great machines, in addition to tubes and a Smokey cigarette box.

I was a bit concerned about the comments I read posted by those who received damaged packages (shipped via UPS), and am happy to report that my order arrived in tip-top shape without incident.

Based upon what I specifically purchased, the pricing is excellent ~ especially as the Premier Supermatic cost anywhere from $4 and change to about $10 less than other online MYO/RYO retailers.

I'm so glad I found this SYO discussion group (many thanks to the host!!!) - without it, I would pay roughly $52/carton or $6/pack for premades.

I just logged on to American Thrust Tobacco to place an order but when I saw Stokkeby's went up to $19.90 a can and Gambler up to $21.95 a pound, I logged off. The free shipping offer went up to a $90. order to qualify. I wonder whats up with the price hike, hope its not across the board. American Thrust Tobacco is pricing themselves out of the competition.

I agree that American Thrust is pricing themselves out of the market, at least *my* market. Gambler is available locally for $14-15 a pound, so $21+ is quite high when you add shipping. I like their $1 samples, however. I was able to try a number of different tobaccos without busting the budget. Wish more on-line retailers would implement such a program. Shipping was quick, 3 days to Indiana, my order was placed in the morning and was shipped the same day.

I've been ryoing for about a year and a half. just recently found this site and its great. It gives me the feeling of ppl helping ppl, which is imo why we are on earth. Anyway, I usually just bought whatever can was cheapest in my local shop. (which of the two choices, zig-zag and top, was top) taste was okay, nice strong menthol flavor ( previous brand was newport.) I live in new york and just ordered some stuff from american thrust. ( expanding my horizons) I dont know what their prices were like before, but the reason I decided to order from them is because in perusing their website, they state that they pay the 37% nys tax. [link]
Perhaps this is the reason their prices have gone up. I understand non nyers ordering elsewhere but for me, knowing I wont be getting an inflated tax bill is reassuring. Other sites usually state that the buyer is responsible for taxes. pipes and cigars, (also in ny) states that they will add that tax onto your bill. [link] (funny, they say 33%) I may try them after I do the computations. Anyway, best to cover your arse I always say.

The one ounce samples are the best. You can try ten different kinds of tobacco, about a pack's worth of each, instead of plunking down 8 or 10 dollars for a can of a single type you might find offensive. Fast shipping. Quite a good selection. I bought a Premier Quickfill, and it works very well with my Gizeh tubes, very economical. Prices are a little high, but that's the only disadvantage.

Great web site, much easier to get around than lil brown. Prices do not seem that bad. Fast shipping. The sample program is great. They do not sell Drum and no specials,on sell, overstock, etc are the really bad points. I am on my 5th order with them with zero problems!!

I just wanted to say that when you are told one day shipping that is for when you order early enough so that your package goes out the same day and not on a Friday. If you don't order until after the company already had UPS pick up for the day and it is a Friday, then your order wouldn't go out til Monday and then you would get it on Tuesday. Even if it were shipped out on Friday you would get it in one "business" days which means that you would receive it Monday. It is unfair to say it is bad service to get a package in three days from the same state when you place an order on a Friday. In my opinion, receiving an item 3 days after placing it is pretty good considering a lot of internet stores tell you two to four weeks for delivery.

I placed an order there on the website, after looking to see that they ship both UPS and USPS. On the page where I thought I would be able to choose which shipper I wanted, I couldn't and the order was finalized. I HATE UPS. Seems that's all they ship. I emailed them and had them cancel my order, and told them about ryo's flat Priority $7 shipping. For the same price I can have packages in 3 days instead of the 9 days for UPS.

> Everything I recieve by UPS arrives damaged...

Me, too. I had a UPS package recently with 2 boxes of tubes and a dozen cans of American Spirit (from lill' brown's). Someone at UPS apparently jammed some kind of crowbar into the side of the box, gauging 3/4 inch irregular hole. Both boxes of tubes were badly damaged and I had to throw away more than half the tubes. Luckily the cans only got deformed. It looked to me someone at UPS doesn't like the smokers, since I get books and other items via UPS and have never seen their packages nearly as damaged as I do with tobacco packages. With the current level of anti-smoker hysteria and witch-hunt, it wouldn't surprise me if some zealots at UPS made it into a sport to gauge tobacco product packages. In the last year or so, since I noticed this peculiar problem, I avoid them for tobacco shipments whenever possible. Perhaps that was the message UPS wished to sent to smokers.

To anyone that receives UPS packages. When you get a box that is damaged sign for it that way (sign your name and then add damaged to the end)and contact the place that shipped it to you right away. By doing this UPS will come and inspect the package and the company you bought if from will start a claim. UPS will have to pay for the damaged items. Then everyone will have a record of this.

I've had a couple similar experiences with UPS too. It does seem like more than a coincidence that I get my boxes from D&R undamaged (inconspicuous package that just says "Daughters & Ryan")but my orders from Smokingpipes.com
(sticker proudly displayed on box "smokingpipes.com")arrive in a generally battered condition.
