Being new at SYO/RYO, I am wondering what a "birds' eye" looks like. I am stuffing for my hubby and I've no idea what that means...any pictures of one? smiles, marli

My understanding is that Bird's eye is the cut cross section of stems and veins in the tobacco leaves.

A rough representation would be <o>.

Thanks for the info...now, do I remove them or leave them in? I just received a bunch of samples today (ironically) and I see that some have more bird's eye in them than others. Honestly though, if I was to try to remove them all I think I would hang up my Supermatic. What say you? Smiles, marli

Some people see bird's eye as a defect but it's part of the blend for certain types of tobacco. You're generally more likely to see it in dark halfzware. I don't smoke those much these days but I never saw a need to remove the bird's eye and it was never a problem.

I agree with Slack that it is part of the blend. You should expect it in nearly all halfzware type tobacco's. It is NOT a bad thing. It mello's out the smoke and is part of the blend. It is not a sign of cheap tobacco (all the time). It is part of what makes dutch type tobbaco what it is.

Hope that helps!
