I tried this in 2001, thought it was ok tasting but harsh, tried it again about 2 weeks ago after finding and reading this forum. I realized the first bag was dried out, this time it was nice and moist was a decent smoke. Nice to know I can get a good smoke semi-locally.

Yeah, they don't make these resealable bags too tough do they? Well what I do when I get tobacco is take the tobacco out after I open it up and put it in a resealable container. I reuse the same one for the past couple of years. If it starts to get dry I take a small custard cup and I use a clean piece of sponge. I soak the piece of sponge in water and put it in the cup. I then put the cup in the tobacco. From what I've read here you don't want the tobacco to come into direct contact with water, like spraying. It may take a day or two but it re-hydrates the tobacco. Again from what I've read here. Your tobacco should be springy when pinched between the fingers. If the tobacco stays pinched, too wet. If it crumbles, too dry.

Yes it is good for the price, and it's a good blending tobacco as well. I blended 30% Ramback/ 70% Midnight Special, and couldn't believe how good the two tasted! It makes a good get--away smoke as well. Mike

Finally found this in a pouch, afraid to buy a large bag and not like it.

This stuff is fairly good tobacco. Tried it in several different tubes and liked it. Nice and moist right out of the pouch.
Picked this up at Walmart for $1.09/pouch

The FF is very good. I stuffed the FF in a light tube for my hubby and he thought it was similar to a marlboro light. He like it the best of all we've tried so far. So this will be our main brand for now.

The menthol version is fair, lower grade of tobacco. The FF version has a wonderful taste. My GF and I have had a difficult time with it though in our topomatic, it constantly jams the machine.

Midnight Special gets gummy when overly moist. Just let it air dry for 5 or 10 minutes. You'll get a feel for it eventually.

Well i see alot of comparison to Bugler here. I don't notice that much similarities. Bugler has recently token a deep dive alot of chemicals in the taste maybe I got a bad batch? But Midnight Special is a trip back down memory "lane" it has a good flavor and a nice amount of nicotine in it!

I would highly recommend it for its price and its quality in this price range. Maybe I like it just because of it cheap price...because personally anything for 5$ I can learn to love

It's been a while since I've smoked Midnight Special, but no bad memories, and the fact that it's produced by Lane Limited prompted me to pick up a pouch while I wait for my Ramback to be delivered.

Not much of an aroma upon opening the bag, and the tobacco was fresh. It is smoother than, and reminiscent of Bugler, but leaves an aftertaste on the palate, but what can one expect for $6.05 a 6 Oz. bag? Less shake than the other bag'd tobaccos at my local Cheap Tobacco Store.

Look at the retailers listed under "Retailers". Many that don't have their own brands carry it such as Lil Brown, RYOCigarette, etc.

I have started SYO about three months ago and I love it. I have been using Midnight Special and Zig Zag full flavor and they seemed to taste the best, maybe a little sweet, but good and are close to a regular Marlboro. I have tried Buglar and did not like it. It was way to sweet for me. I have tried Tops the taste was fine, but it gave a burning sensation on my tongue. Does anybody have any suggestions on other tobacco products that are close to a regular Marlboro? Thanks.

Very similar to Buglar and at about half the price of Bugler in my area, it is a "Best Buy" if you like Bugler but can't afford it. Like Bugler, maybe a little too much burley in the blend, but not bad.

As for the comment about harshness, I didn't find it to be as harsh as some of the other "cheap" brands and there is some turkish taste which I like.

Midnight special is one of the few RYO tobaccos I have tried that I will NOT smoke. Its really harsh. If I am out of smokes and low on cash I will just buy some top. A friend of mine smokes this hand rolled, but I can't stand it. Maybe its just personal preference

I switched from Winston Lights to Top, but after 3 cigarettes, I found Top too harsh. My friend gave me a pouch of Midnight Special, which is definitely not as harsh as Top. It's now my only brand. Hope this helps anyone that's wondering.

Two inexpensive tobaccos I have seen (but not tried): "Gambler" and "Double Take".

"Midnight Special" (Lane): I started RYO with this tobacco, Like the European Halvswares but often return to Midnight Special. Inexpensive ($4.40/6oz. mail order from Oregon), pleasant "full flavor", rolls easily.
