Gambler

A good inexpensive smoke. Its a pretty clean, medium cut/strand, tobacco. A little darker and a little stronger than H&R. Low ~$12lb.

I recently purchased some for my wife, and tried a stick. This tobacco has edged out Top in my opinion as the worst Ive had to date. If I quit smoking, I think this would make an excellent cessation aid as I would dread the thought of another stick. Brushing isnt enough to get the taste out of my mouth. In all fairness, this may be a bad bag, I sure hope so. I think I ll put off trying the FF. Thank God I only bought the sample. No offense to fans to Gambler light fans intended.

The Gambler FF is nothing at all like the Gambler Light. The GL was, to me, quite nasty as well (I have a review here somewhere on this page); but a couple months ago I had the chance to try the Gambler FF. I was hesitant because of my experience with the Light, but was really very surprised at how tasty the FF was. It would likely not become a daily smoke for me since it's not my type of blend (I prefer straight Virginia blends), but for a back up, no problem. Give it a shot.

I think this is the most popular brand in the US. Packs well, smokes good. Pretty good value. Others in this price range are a bit dicey. Gambler is the most consistent. Friend recommended and now its a regular.

I purchased Gambler Light, as I wanted to try a new brand. I am a kind person, but this stuff is terrible. It has almost no flavor. The smoke itself isn't light, it just has no pleasant taste. Well, no taste at all actually. I won't buy this brand again.

Gambler FF

I like this stuff, if for nothing else the economy of it. the flavor wasnt bad, wasnt harsh in a ff or light tube. Seems like a pretty good blend to me, certainly worlds better than its big brother TOP. Will probably try Gambler Light next.

I've been smoking the FF stuffed in FF tubes for a while now. It's not bad for an everyday smoke. The light is , IMO, not worth buying, and the ultra-light, you might just as well throw out the contents, shred the bag, and smoke it instead.
I prefer Stoker's #2 FF, but it isn't always available locally, whereas Gambler is just about always in stock at my favorite local smoke shop. I've asked the shop to try to keep the Stoker's available, but it seems to be a thing with the distributor.

Not bad. A decent smoke for the money. i do prefer some other, equally inexpensive, tobaccos though.

I tried the FF in a light tube. Didn't care for the flavor very much. Tasted like a low grade cigarette (when i was smoking premades). It wasn't horrible, but just not something i would want to smoke all the time. I had hubby try it and he thought it was OK, though he seemed to like it a little better than i did, he didn't want it for a everyday smoke either. I ended up blending it with other tobacco just to get rid of it.

I did not care for this tobacco either. It wasn't awful, but nowhere near the top of my list.

Gambler Menthol

Kind of reminds me of GPC, a lower grade tobacco. It does pack nice in the topomatic.

Reminds me of McClintock FF, though it isn't quite as sweet. A nice, straightforward smoke that stuffs well, burns good. Paired with McClintock FF tubes it is very close to a Marlboro Medium, maybe in between that and a Marlboro Red, and is a good choice for someone switching from premades. My only problem with it is no one carries it locally.

Gambler Light
Posted by JD on Tuesday, 23-May-2006

Finally broke down and bought a halfpound of this stuff just to check it out. It stuffed nicely, but I found it far from "light," even in an El Rey Light tube.

Actually, I can't say I cared much for it at all, as it reminded me of nothing more than second or third-tier premade cigs. Probably great for someone just starting the journey from the premade world as it cerainly has that general taste and smell, but not recommended for anyone used to the likes of McC, D&R, PS or other higher quality tobacco.

Anyone used to the likes of McC, D&R, Stokkebye or other high grade tobacco is likely to get a headache from Gambler.
The same goes for Zig-Zag.

Well, an appreciative homeless guy now owns that particular sack. I can't even say that it would make a good base for blending with anything else, as it would certainly drag down whatever you mixed with it.

Half-a-star for ease of stuffing.

That does remind me, Zig Zag came out with premade smokes. I bought a pack a few months back though I've never tried Zig Zag RYO tobacco in the can...just assumed it was the same. Their premades are nasty and remind me of 3rd tier packaged smokes.

Gambler and Midnight Special were some of my first SYO tobaccos. Better than premade smokes but I never finished the bags after trying some half-way decent SYO tobacco. I didn't give them to a homeless person. I dumped them around the house foundation as a pesticide since many bugs don't like tobacco.

I tried a 6oz bag of gambler menthol last week and loved it. Great taste, good amount of menthol, worked good in my supermatic. Went to the local smoke shop w/ one of my buddies who wanted to try the MYO/SYO way, so he bought a 6oz of gambler light, and I bought a 1 pounder of menthol. We got home and dried it out a little, and when we tried to stuff it, it would pack into a core that was so dense, you could eject it onto the table, pick it up, and drop it in to the tube! Plus cigarettes that did stuff right tasted horrible! Well anyway..., went back to my Mcclintock blend.

i bought a 1 pound bag of full flavor gambler tobacco last week and i was very unsatisfied it was dry and harsh tasting.i have been smoking it for 4 years and never had this problem before.when i tried to return it for another bag, the tobacco store wouldn't let me because it is against state law.why should i have to spend more money when i buy it to save money?i wish i had the corporate headquarters phone number i deserve to be reimbursed!

Few places will allow the return of something like that. But they should have made good on it anyway. I would take my business elsewhere, that's for sure. Also, always squeeze the bag and check for dry product and excess "powder," sure signs of brittle, nasty 'baccy.

I have ordered many pounds of tobacco from D&R, and have received sub-par product only once. But a quick e-mail brought profuse apologies, a priority-shipped replacement and no hassles at all. Too bad most local brick and mortar shops can't seem to get the hint....

Take it up with the store you bought it from. It sits on the shelf and dries out. I have a good tobacco shop and all the stuff I buy there is fresh and good. A half of a block down, I can get the best tobacco for a buck less and it's dried out and is pretty much unsmokeable.

I've been smoking Gambler Light for a couple of years now. It's available at a couple of local tobacco shops. I've tried it with several of the light tubes out there and it's a little on the strong side, but in combination with Gizeh Silver Tip Charbon tubes it provides an excellent light smoke. And it's only $4.99 for a 6 oz. bag!

Gambler Light: I tried this while looking for a Marlboro substitute for my wife. It is similar to the Stoker's #2 Light with a slightly stronger flavor. It still wasn't close enough to a Marlboro for her liking. I found it to be too moist to use alone in my Premier Supermatic.

I have just started stuffing my own cigs. I love the McClintok Light. I have been recently introduced to Gambler Full Flavor stuffed in an El Rey Light tube thru a co-worker. For the money ( $13.00 a LB. at the local reservation smoke shop in Tucson, AZ, no tax!) Gambler is a great smoke! There's better out there which I'm slowly discovering, but Gambler will be my main tobacco, but I plan to treat myself with some of the upper end tobaccos from time to time.

I started with Gambler 2 1/2 years ago.
Then I found Stoker's #2 ... I have been using the Stokers for more than a year now (tried a few new ones here and there). I cannot even stand to smoke a store bought cig any more. Stoker's is not a high price, might even be lower than Gambler. You might have to look around for it (one of our local retailers sells it, and one does not)

Stoker's #2 was my brand but they left Michigan because of tax hassles. Gambler's light is my smoke now. It's pretty darn good in a light or regular tube. The ultra-light is pretty good as well. I agree with your general assessment. After Stoker's left town, I had to try all sorts of rubbish and Gambler's came out heads above everything else.

I've been smoking Gambler light for a couple of years now and I use one of those $8. red "Deluxe" plastic injector machines that has a rubber base and the moistness is not a problem. Also, tell your wife if she sticks with it for a few months the flavor will win her over. I switched from Marlboros to MYO about 3 years ago and after about 6 months I actually prefer them to manufactured cigarettes.

Gambler full flavor is a really good smoke for the price (6.49 for a 6oz. bag) stuffs well, no moisture problems, the injector is also a really good bargain, but the tubes aren't exactly first rate.
