Farmers Gold
Farmers Golden Leaf, Farmers Gold and FG Value Brand are made by M&R Holdings. The standard Farmers Gold is an inexpensive tobacco with an OK taste. Its not a very clean blend and the medium cut/short strand is surprisingly hard to stuff. From looking at it I wonder about the actual tobacco content. I see what looks like reconstituted tobacco and/or non tobacco content. ~$12 per lb

I have tried all the Farmers Gold line of products from Full flavor, Menthol, and Gold. Most pip/ryo tobaccos usually leave a bad taste in my mouth and i usually switch back to my pre-packaged cigs. Farmers Gold is really doing it for me. The Gold is my favorite and since they use the highest quality tobacco I feel confident in the money im spending and saving with the product. I usually don't post on these forums, but i just had to get it out there what a good experience i had with farmers gold.

After trying a couple dozen brands, Farmers Golden Leaf has become my daily smoke. There is an odd inconsistency I felt the need to mention. I occasionally get a 6 oz bag that has a very "chemical" smell. I have no way to account for this, as most bags smell like pure tobacco. Unless the plastic bag is out gassing in some manner. If they are putting chemicals on the tobacco. They must be very inconsistent in doing so.

This surprised me. I actually like this stuff. Smoked it for a day and find the general taste and smell to be completely different, not bad. A lot of shake in the bag though.

I'm taking back my good points about this tobacco simply for the amount of shake. It actually ruined my hand-held. Gunked it up so bad you cant even move it empty now. So thumbs down on Farmers Gold. Will report in on Blackjack and Kingmountain next week.

The review surprised me also. I bought a 6oz bag of both the ultra light and additive free. The product is packaged well. I've smoked a pack of both. For me this tobacco rolled exceptionally well on my top o matic, just the right amount of moisture content. The tobacco appears clean and free of fillers. I have yet to find a stem. Farmers Gold is a welcome addition to the lower cost RYO tobacco products available. Windsail Light it is not, but for the price this tobacco provides a smooth flavorable smoke that suits me.

hate it....bought a pound of it...blended Golden Harvest 6oz with it...hate it....can't find a web address to complain, ask for refund of $12.99. Will give it to the "looney bin" for people just off the street who NEED free tobacco. Apologies i have no skill to define cut or stuffability, etc. The package says "U.S. Blend"...blue with red and gold writing...

According to RYOM this is a 'premium' version of Farmers Gold (and FG's Value Brand is the 'value' version). I don't know that its been discontinued but I can no longer find it online so I'm sticking it in with Farmers Gold.

- Farmers Gold - for nicotine withdrawal only

So far this is the worst of the stuff your own tobaccos that I've tried (TOP is a distant second). It tasted stale with a bitter aftertaste (like a cheap premade cigarette). Sure its smokable but when you try some of the high quality blends available, it may just convince you that nothing is better.

I'd recommend this stuff for those who want to quit smoking. If you didn't want to before, you will after smoking this stuff.

I agree. I went a whole day without a smoke because this was all I had in the house. To me it taste kind of like paper. I gave what i had left to a friend of mine, he couldn't stand it for more than half a day. He couldn't breathe well after that.

Gotta agree with The majority of posts. This stuff tastes oddly.... Oily. And I don't just mean engine oil, I mean crude oil, even gasoline tasting. I started off smoking by stealing my parent's Basics and I didn't think there was anything worse than that but Farmer's Gold has proved even worse. I don't mean to be so harsh but I'm tempted to call the company and see if I can get my money back!!!

The only "gold" in this junk is the gold the manufacturer will have after convincing you this is "natural" or "pure" tobacco. A great bag to buy when you are ready to quit - one stick and you will never want another.

On the search for a Marlboro Red substitute I tried a bag of this stuff. Bland, tasteless, smells like lawn clippings. Rolled without a filter it is smokeable but just barely. Ick. If anyone is looking for a substitute for a premade they had better pass this brand by.

I have been smoking Farmers Gold ultra-light for approximately 3 months now. I greatly enjoy the tobacco.

There is a good amount of unusable tobacco in there (~15%), as well as sticks and large pieces, but they have never been much of a problem to remove.
The tobacco gives a good light smoke and a very even pack in Zen light 100mm tubes that I use. The tobacco does not have that harsh 'edge' that you often find and associate with tobaccos in it's price range (ex: Gambler)- which is some thing I will not tolerate in my smokes.
The stuff is always good to go right from the bag. No extra moisture needed nor any needing removal.
I typically purchase it in a brick and mortar for 7.50$ per 6ounce bag (that's 20$/lb), but lilbrown sells 13 types priced at 11.55$ per 16ounce/1lb bag.- Re: Farmers Gold

The Farmer's Gold ultralight definitely lacks the harsher taste of Gambler, which is one of the worse, in my opinion. It is also what I call a 'true' ultralight. To me, however, the Farmer's Gold is bland and tasteless. It also has a rather odd aftertaste, like dirt or lawn clippings. I much prefer Stokers #2 ultralight, which has an excellent taste and appears to be an even 'lighter' ultralight than Farmer's Gold. It doesn't cost much more either.

This stuff is brutal alright. I'm wondering how much Kentucky blue grass is mixed in with the tobacco. The owner of my local smoke shop says it's his best seller. Go figure.

Not much to figure here - it's probably the best seller in a lot of B&M shops, and online even. Face it, most people who RYO/MYO just want to feed the nicotine jones, at the cheapest price. That is why so many good quality tobaccos are gone from the market. You only have to look at the decline of McClintock from the original great stuff, to the ok stuff in the tall cans, to the worthless crap in the bag.

I found the taste of Farmers Gold to be OK at first, but by about halfway through it became very harsh. The moisture content seemed fine. It's just not a good blend of tobacco.

it sounds like what you have here is a cheap blend that has many fillers and cheap tobacco. probably a crappy blend of burley and virginia or just burley alone that is air cured. it probably doesn't compress because it's too dry which is a common problem you will run into amongst blends like this. They're known to not stay moist and they're junk. do yourself a favor and buy better tobacco it's even a 30 dollar pound of tobacco is cheaper the pre-made cigarettes.

I agree it's rather harsh. One of my first experiences with RYO cigarettes. Lots of other choices without the harshness and a better taste.

A large amount of reconstituted tobacco & noticeably a large amount of finely cut stem matter & heavily flavored burley (ICK) & that was the light!!!
I've had worse, I hope you dont have too!- Re: Farmers Gold

The #2 long cut is an excellent blend, worthy of one of my favorites, too moist right out of the bag though. But is a definite must try. Ross Green

There is barely any menthol taste. Kind of reminds me of a gpc menthol light. I don't think its harsh like some have said.

My friend tried some of this while I was tring to get him started stuffing. He smokes menthols and couldn't stand the full flavor i gave him. The menthol is not as bad as the regular, but still no tobacco taste. All we could taste was menthol.
