Samson

The halfzware is rich with a hint of bite. It reminds me more of Jester than US Drum. The mild has a Dutch-like flavor, something you typically don't find in a golden shag. I'd be more interested in the mild if it came in something other than $31LB pouches. RYO Mag. reviewed Samson here.

  • Halfzware Shag - Virginia and Kentucky
  • Milde Shag - Virginia and Burley, pouches only

Fine cut shags with birdseye and a bit of stem. Made in Holland by RTN for Lane LTD. Low ~$30LB

This was the best RYO tobacco I've ever had, and then I moved and never have found it again. Been smoking just normal Drum in the blue can and now they've outlawed shipping across state lines (prevent youth from smoking my arse, it's about taxes). Not too many youngsters have a shipping address :/ and I don't have a place to get RYO within a couple hundred miles so I'm screwed.
Is there a way to get this shipped from oversea's?   Is there an alterative pipe blend with this taste? I don't even care if I can't roll it, I really enjoyed the flavor.
As far as a review: This made the hassle of rolling your own worth the extra effort; and once you realize that tobacco can taste and smell good, you can't got backwards.

I find the Samson Blue to be one of the best halfzwares available. While its potent and pungent as per style, its also very smooth and leaves a residual mellow taste afterwards. Its a high quality shag cut that needs a bit of drying, but otherwise stuffs nicely. Adding a bit of high quality Turkish certainly doesnt hurt. I try to always have some Samson on hand, and its available locally.   :)

Picked up some for a try.The tobacco has a very odd smell to it.I have never smelled anything like it before.I was a bit hesitant to try it after I smelled it,but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It was the smoothest most original tasting smoke I have have tried to date.I don't think I would smoke it every day,but for something different now and then or perhaps to create your own blend this stuff is definitely worth a try.

This is one of my favorites. Its smooth enough to hand roll yet still has a good flavor in your favorite tube. Can't wait for the cans to come out. Mixes well with alot of other tobaccos. I like to mix it with Rowland to give my cig case that hint of chocolate smell.

Did they change the name of Samson Mild Shag to Samson Bright Blend??   Or is the Bright Blend a different tobacco?? I also saw a Samson Virginia Blend when i googled Samson, but it seems to only be available in Europe? Anyone have any info about the Virginia or Bright Blend?? It would be nice if there were more Virginia blends available at the local tobacco shops. Right now the only Virginia types I can get locally are Bali red and 3 Castles, both very good but a bigger variety would be nice. So if you know anything about these new Samson blends please let me know thanks

Excellent halfzware shag, very much reminiscent of the old Drum that was imported from the Netherlands. Blends nicely with D&R's Ramback Turkish (the resulting smokes are rather what a Camel might taste like if RJR used good tobacco).

Seems to be available in both pouches and tins in most smokeshops I've been in, and at a pretty reasonable price.
