Never had a problem with the cutter/compressor. I'm waiting for someone to put bearings in the H links.

Has anyone tried engraving a Supermatic? Can it be done?

I'm sure there alot of ways one could go about customizing
a Supermatic and I think it would be nice if Robert Burton Associates made different colored or patterned parts availabe to the consumer. Also, it would be nice to see something individually customized. I think there could be a decent market for something like this and would like to see it happen.- Re: Engraving

No offence, but why?

In the above, I was thinking of finishes along the lines of a nice Zippo. That's not to say I don't admire the blue & ship iron I have now, but I would like a high polished chrome housing , or an inlay of some sort, maybe a wood laminate so long as it weighed the same and with the same quality. Somewhere out there someone might want Eddie Van Halen stripes or leopard skin, or even the dreaded head shop design. The possibilities are so endless and I would go crazy if I had that many to choose from.

I guess I do have my vintage gloss red and chrome Premier that I won't get rid of, because it looks so cool. Unfortunately, there isn't enough of a market to justify RBA making a custom line of machines.

This sounds more like an aftermarket project. You could get people to send you their machines for customization.
- Minor modifications to Supermatic

I've been using both the Excel and the Sup.II for several years. I got the Super with the now discontinued "Lifetime Warranty". I used to be able to get a free part or two from the old Owners without sending the machine back to the factory but things have changed. No big deal as we save so much money with MYO/SYO. New # for service and parts is 1518 834-3038. http://www.arbroinc.com/service.html

The repair tech is George, a pleasant young man.
I had problems with the iron button on the "H" shaped brass colored part, slipping out of the channel it rides inside of. I made 2 small plastic shims and placed them at the top of the "H" so the 2 small nuts at the top right of the machine would pass through them. Result, no more slipping out of the curved groove. The second modification was to place a folded over piece of fine sandpaper under the large thin nut which holds the large plastic bushing in place. The proper degree of tightness is set and it holds so there's little chance of over tightening and breaking the bushing, which I did TWICE! Both mods can be made with only a small scissor + a bit of thin plastic and a square inch of sandpaper.
It's very humid most of the year down here and I have bent many spoons. I wish that they would put a reinforcing rod in the nylon shaft of the spoon. A piece of steel rod would do wonders for this great machine.- Re: Minor modifications to Supermatic

Clarification - Correction

In the second paragraph, line four should read; top left (from outside of machine) but when inside the "H" is on the top right.
