Privileg
A crank machine that is somewhat similar in appearance to the Excel. Mechanically it is different and apparently not a very reliable... The Smokey Mac appears to be the same machine.

Has anyone had any luck tracking down those gears that keep breaking? Thanks!

Good luck with this. I believe they are manufactured out of the country. Your best bet might be to return the broken ones for replacement. Better yet, request a refund and purchase an Excel if you're on a budget or one of the Supermatics if you can spend a bit more.

I saw that one of the local gas stations in my area is now carrying these machines for sale. I just wondered if anyone had tried one of these and how it compares to, say, the Excel.

The privaleg was the first machine I bought about 5 years ago when I was in that newbie "only save money" mode & stuffed the cheapest tobaccos I could find, the privileg has a chronic problem of not being able to fill the filter end of the tube with quite a bit of tobacco sticking out the tip & I got sick of TAPPING each filled tube 5-6 times. Its all plastic/teflon & you have to have a tight hold on it really watch the angle of pressure you pull on the handle or you'll have a pile of junk in short order, I bought a supermatic priemer in about two weeks time after 'fighting' with the privileg & it now sits unused in my tobacco locker; if I were to travel & myo I would rather have a single slide type maker instead of the privilig. I see the excel is about $22 at 'lil brown smoke shack & the supermatic II at $29.65---

My advice would be skip the paper weight & go with a good quality machine.

i have the privileg cigarette machine and it sucks. the first one i bought broke after making 3 cigarettes. i took it back and it was replaced, then after about making a cartons worth of cigarettes it broke again. so i wouldn't recommend this machine to anyone. but if anyone has the 1-800 number to the manufacturer i would really like to get it. if you have it please email it to me at bigdaddyj198169@yahoo.com. thank you.

I have bought at least 4 or more of your privileg cigarette machines but the plastic gears inside keep breaking. Could you please tell me where I could order the gears to replace them. Thank you.

I have the Privileg "Smoky Mac" which is the same machine, with a clear top and colored gears inside. Its about $25.

I've made probably 2-3 cartons on it already and I refuse to say it hasn't broken because with my luck it'll bust on the very next smoke (never tempt fate folks).
I think I've finally gotten the hang of the thing. I inject the tobacco fast, yet on the "backswing" of the crank handle I go slow. If you go fast on the backswing, you are liable to pull some tobacco out before its expanded in the tube. If you try to inject slow, the tobacco will expand and you won't be able to pull it off.
Oh yeah, I've been using gizeh silver tip tubes and premiers, neither seem to matter.
I will say that when I inject fast, sometimes the "thingy" that secures the tube lets go at the very end of the stroke because I'm using enough tobacco to slightly overfill the smoke. I tap it a few times to get it in afterwards. I like a stiff draw being a cigar smoker too.
I find with most hand injectors that I've tried, they do not fill the tip of the smoke so I usually use more tobacco which tends to give me a little grief but I think I got it right now.
One trick I've used on a portable slide is to use one made for 100's on regular king tubes and it works great for me.- Re: Privileg cigarette machine - UPDATE

I now purchased an Excel to give it a shot. I must say there are some things I like more about the Excel and some things I like less.

Better:
Spring loaded crank which returns to original position without effort.
Worse:
Plastic/Rubber base is not soft and supple, the neoprene privileg base absolutely will not slip on any surface - the excel will.
Better:
Larger size of excel fits better in my big hands
Worse:
Can't see in it like the Smoky Mac edition of the privileg which shows me when its getting clogged up w/fines
Better:
Availablility of replacement parts to the last screw
Worse:
Costs more than privileg
Better:
I don't have to pack the opening as accurately when stuffing a cig
Worse:
Opening holds more than a cig but less than 2 so its always a challenge to finish whats in there with a full cig
Better:
Easier to fill a cig to the very tip than privileg even though I can do it on privileg
Bottom line, I can use either machine but I slightly prefer the Excel. My wife with smaller hands and adoring the looks of the clear smoky mac, took that one from me.- Re: Privileg cigarette machine - UPDATE

Excellent review without prejudice to either machine!!

You have to come to a forum like this to get really good information without proprietary motives.
I do think you left out one last "worse" category with respect to the Excel....."made by a now defunct company that was absorbed by a giant company who is communicating very little and has subcontracted warranty service and parts supply to a third party".
