Raunchiest Blends
Posted by Matt on Wednesday, 28-Feb-2007
Since there has been a newcomer or two lately, it might be a big help to mention some blends to steer clear of. One blend I can think of is Roll Rich. It used to come in an oddly proportioned can and was better than the current blend. A handrolled smoke of this will leave you eating tobacco since this is one of the shakiest out there. Another let-down is Top. I used to buy it and it was tolerable until I noticed the chemical taste and smell which became impossible to ignore. (packaging?) I know there are some Zig-Zag fans out there, but I'll never buy it again after my last experience. It either gave me the headache or aggravated the one I already had. Each time I'd smoke one it was noticeable.

For me the raunchiest blend is Gambler, hands down. The only other cheaper brands I have tried are Midnight Special and Rave, MS was years ago, thought it was Ok but harsh, now I realize it was dry, may have to give it another try as I can get it here in town now, just bought a bag of Rave yesterday, seems ok.

Got the 'cheap' special from pipesandcigars. Was touted as "lane limited" super cheap by the pound. Tasted, smelled, and burned like hay. Sweet hay. I have never experienced anything like it! Tossed a pound minus about 3 sticks!

The only thing I've found that I could not....or would not smoke is something they called Lanes RYO that I got in bulk at a local smoke shop. It was $1.45 an ounce and I've never seen it anywhere else which leads me to believe it was really something else that they just decided to call Lanes RYO. I also got some bulk Stokers #2 light there that was almost as bad but that could have just been a bad production run or something.

I don't know what 'Lanes' you are talking about. There is an international 'Lanes' that is widely available in many local smoke shops. I tried some a few years back. It was actually quite tasty but too strong for my liking.

Anyone who lives in Central Florida can probably back me up on this one...Low Ball Louie's Light tobacco. Nasty stuff. I can't begin to figure out exactly what sort of tobacco it is, but I think it's mostly a minimally cured burley. I bought a one pound bag once about a year and a half ago (this store, while selling myo/ryo supplies, does NOT provide samples, which would have surely saved me some money and indeed, for some peculiar reason, treats their myo/ryo offerings like some bastard stepchild). A musty, vegetal taste that would be good if you were looking for a reason to quit smoking all together. I had to throw the stuff away after making just a handful of smokes.

Too funny! I went there yesterday to see what they had and was tempted to try and buy one of thier 1 Lb bags. I figured there was a reason they didn't have smaller pouches and I'm glad I steered clear!

Unless you are in the mood to quit smoking I would stay clear of Farmers Gold. I will never forget my experience with it. Dry flakier chip cut, of course with a lot of shake. Real light in color. I wondered if it were a blend of maple and birch leaves along with some tobacco barn sweepings. So that is my addition to raunchiest blends or tobaccos out there.

Well, I happen to be ok with Roll Rich. I had a pouch a while back and it was fine. Zig-Zag is also fine, though I don't like Top. Every person has different tastes.
