I've tried a bunch of D&R blends, I think nearly all of them except the newer Platinum and maybe some of the gold blends. My everyday smoke is Two Timer. Allthough after smoking two bags I am getting a bit tired of it. I might get a little more variety next time. Next to the Two Timer my favorites are probably Cockstrong and the Sigaretta. Vengeur seemed to give me a head ache. And I really didn't care for Three Sails or Rybak, and straight Rambak is a little to funky for my taste. Though the Rambak Gold was a nice smoke. I find Windsail a little too mild. In any case I'd rather smoke my least favorite D&R blend over a pre made any day.

So far, Roland Light is my favorite. What a wonderful, flavorful smoke this stuff is. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. There's nothing on the pre-made market that even comes close in my opinion.

cockstrong and vengeur platinum are excellent, ramback gold and two timer are bland. Makes sense after reading RYO mag archives, I was a Marlboro smoker.

Sounds like you haven't been away from Marlboro too long.

I think, based on my own experience transitioning from pre-mades, you will find that your tastes will change as time goes by. Not only change, but you will start to notice the delicate differences and subtle tastes and flavors in those "bland" tobaccos from D&R. The ones you seem to like have more added flavorings/casings than some of the other D&R blends.

It seems that the more recent "former pre-made" smokers gravitate to these more heavily flavored blends.

It takes a while for the taste buds to get over the damage pre-mades have done to your palate. Cutting down on the amount you smoke will go a long way to enabling your palate as well.

All that said, you may very well still find the Cockstrong and Vengeur blends to your liking. I know I did, for a while.

Btw, I was a Camel smoker until they got too expensive. Never really liked Marlboros or Winstons. Ended up smoking Ligget/Pyramid cheap-ass cigs for the price before I finally started SYO.

In any case, good luck to you and have fun!

Actually I dumped Marlboro in 1981, one day they tasted like crap, went to Menthol for a long time, started with Kools ended up with Salem ultra-lights, got tired of the menthol, switched to GPC FF when pre-made premium brands hit $1 a pack in 1994, that makes me laugh when I read that, thinking a buck a pack was outrageous. I started occasionally hand rolling Top in '94, Top and Bugler were about all I ever saw in the store, no tobacco shops in town.

Kerry,

Thanks for the reply, you were correct about my tastebuds recovering, now I find Cockstrong and Vengeur P to be bland and am enjoying the Ramback Gold and Two-timer, next order will include TT Gold, most likely SJ and Green River, and a straight Virginia, I may be able to appreciate it now. Any suggestions are welcome.

For quite a while my daily blend was equal parts:

Windsail Platinum
Two Timer
Ramback

Now it is all of the above plus Ramback Balkan (RB). Still in equal parts. The RB gives it a more sweet taste on exhale and does add some Oriental(Turkish) flavor.

I haven't smoked all of D&R's blends, but I haven't tried one that I would call bad.

I have tried:

Windsail and Windsail Platinum
Penhooker
Vengeur
Cockstrong
Ramback and Ramback Balkan
SJ and GR Rimboche (Perique blends)

And maybe a couple of others, but I can't remember right now.
