American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco
Posted by Rob S on Wednesday, 08-Aug-2007
Ordered some tobacco and tubes from "American Thrust" and "Roll Your Own Tobacco."
I placed my order over the weekend, and in both cases, I didn't receive confirming emails until early Tuesday evening. By Wednesday morning, UPS tracking for the "American Thrust" package indicated much activity, and it's scheduled delivery date is tomorrow, Thursday. Not bad.
USPS tracking for the "Roll Your Own Tobacco" package showed no activity by Wednesday morning, nor that the Postal Service even received it yet. Disappointing, considering all the good things I've heard about the company form posters on this forum.

8:39 a.m (wed)..."American Thrust" package arrives at Shrewsbury, MA.
Looks like I may even get it this afternoon. Shrewsbury is just a couple hours drive from where I am in northeast Massachusetts. Not bad at all (so far)
Still no activity for the "Roll Your Own" package. Not even acknowledgment of package receipt by USPS.- Re: American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco

When dealing with the US Post office, always use their Priority

Mail. You'll get the package before the info is posted.
USPS doesn't post info on their packages with any efficiency.
It's hit or miss with the mail as far as web tracking.
UPS does a good job of letting you know where your package
is, but shipping by regular UPS can take a week or more.
I get Priority Mail from DnR to San Fran in two days. Every time.
Regular first class mail can take anywhere from a couple of days
to a couple of weeks, depending on distance. So, if you
are expecting a priority mail package from Thrust or RYO,
and it hasn't shown up, I'd inquire about it.

Dear Rob.....please excuse this if I am not awake enough and making a snap guess that is incorrect, but I suspect Dave came in and rearranged your posts, a little surprisingly leaving them all......the face of the "what's new" forum only allows three replies to a subject at a time

I'm not sure I understand, but if you're referring to identical posts, by me, in both the "American thrust" thread and "RYOT" thread....I did that deliberately since the information in the posts related to both, and I wanted to make them available to the readers of each of those categories.

Thanks for the info though...- Re: American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco

Incidentally, tracking information for the RYOT package still hasn't indicated receipt by USPS as of noon today. Not sure if I'll do business with them again...dependent, of course, upon the quality of the tobacco when it does arrive...but this first experience with RYOT left me very disappointed in the quality of their customer service.- Re: American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco

I'd probably blame USPS rather than RYOT...I've placed numerous orders from them over the past couple of years and always receive my package within 2 to 3 business days (from Texas to Central Florida). However, I have never seen the USPS package tracking system work. Never...not just from RYOT, but from most any orders shipped USPS. Their system is abysmal when compared to real shipping companies like UPS, DHL, etc.

Have you called RYOT to confirm your package has been shipped?- Re: American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco

Considering that I placed my order over the weekend, and neither company actually processed it until late Tuesday, doesn't sit well with me. That's not what I would call prompt, efficient service, for an internet supplier.

Be that as it may, I'll defer to other posters here who have personal experience with USPS and their inefficient tracking system, which, by the way, still hasn't acknowledged receipt of my package from RYOT...while my other package from AT is still sitting in Shrewsbury as of 6:00 pm Wednesday evening.
Considering what I've read of RYOT, I expected better service from them in processing my order initially.
Anyway, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Both packages arrived today, which makes me very happy. I've only tried a few of the tobaccos, but boy, are they good. There's no way I'm going to discontinue my business with either one, especially RYOT. I really like the Sagamore Virginia, and my friend, who's a Marlboro smoker really likes it too. Then later, I handed him a Ramback, and he immediatley took notice, and commented how much he liked that too.

I'm new to this site and can tell you that I placed an order with American Thrust Tobacco on Sunday and my order went out on Tuesday because Monday was the Labor day holiday, so American Thrust was closed and so were the shipping companies.

I haven't done a lot of tobacco hunting, but I can say, I doubt I would ever shop anywhere for tobacco aside from DnR...not that this is the smartest idea, just that I know their products are as good as any if not the very best.......while I have played the "tracking game" with other products I've ordered, I can't understand not lifting a phone and dialing a toll-free number, (in my case) getting to reach a human being, usually of feminine persuasion and say thing like "Howdy Y'all, Hey Betty, I'm going whacky cause I need some baccy"...(of course not that phrase, but maybe I'll use it)...at any rate, life has taught me that personal contact trumps electronic transaction in many cases....- Re: American Thrust VS Roll Your Own Tobacco

If D&R would start shipping internationally, they'd be golden.... It's really a pain to be overseas for awhile and have to have other people order for you, then have them ship the stuff to you. C'mon, Mark, it's the twenty-first century! :-)
